Senior officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), the EU Delegation to Moldova and EUPM Moldova convened to discuss mechanisms to speed up the expansion of the TETRA secure communications system for nationwide operability.
With a $15.6 million support grant, Moldova will upgrade the management software of the TETRA secure communications system to strengthen its resilience against cyberattacks and foreign intrusions.
The project includes the construction of new communication towers or intervention in 38 locations, which will also lead to creation of new jobs in Moldova.
Additionally, the project plans to train staff in special communications as well as to equip mobile communication points to ensure full coverage of Moldova’s territory.
The TETRA system will integrate all national security institutions into a unified network, enabling immediate and coordinated responses to critical situations. This will enhance the efficiency of public services, offering faster and more reliable interventions for citizens.
Key benefits include improved protection of the population and state borders, as well as more effective measures to maintain public order and social peace. The project will be implemented over a five-year period (2023-2028).
