Minister of the Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, and Austrian Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner signed in Chisinau the Agreement on the implementation of the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe. The aim is to intensify cooperation in the fight against threats to security and public order.
‘The importance of the Agreement arises from the multiple transnational threats caused by organised crime elements, and its signing would significantly contribute to the prevention, countering and fight against international crime, to the benefit of both countries’ said Minister Efros.
Under this Agreement, the parties will increase cooperation on the prevention, detection and police investigation of crime. In this respect, the system of internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova registers another important step in the development of Moldovan-Austrian police cooperation at the operational level, by establishing a legal framework for cooperation that will facilitate the development and carrying out of special joint investigative activities, in the light of current crime trends that are not limited to the borders of a single state.
In particular, the Agreement is intended to create the necessary regulatory framework for the implementation of the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe.
The Convention is one of the most effective mechanisms of police cooperation that brings South-East European countries closer to EU bodies by strengthening good neighbourhood relations and improving the regional system for fighting organised crime in South-East Europe.
