On September 24-25, 2024, in Chisinau, Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros, alongside Secretary of State Mariana Lucrețeanu, is taking part in the 15th anniversary of the Prague Process Senior Officials Meeting (SOM). The event brings together high-level decision-makers and representatives from partner organizations across 20 countries to discuss significant developments in national and regional migration policies since the launch of the Process in 2009.
In his address, Minister Efros highlighted the forum’s crucial role in shaping effective migration policies and underscored the importance of international cooperation.
“Moldova has shown its commitment to implementing a resilient migration management system, strengthening regional security, and sharing best practices to tackle current challenges”, the minister said.
Participants discussed the impact of migration on regional security, the necessary crisis management measures, and the operational priorities set out in the 2023-2027 Action Plan.
Minister Adrian Efros further stressed: “Over the years, the Prague Process has proven its effectiveness on the international stage, playing a leading role in promoting cooperation on migration issues. It has successfully implemented numerous projects addressing various aspects of migration management. These initiatives have not only offered practical solutions, but also fostered collaboration between Member States and other stakeholders, advancing legal migration pathways while focusing on capacity building, shared challenges and the exchange of best practices. Migration is not only a challenge but can become an opportunity when properly managed with support from international partners and European instruments”.
During the meeting, Minister Efros had a bilateral meeting with ICMPD Director General Michael Spindelegger. They discussed strengthening collaboration in the context of Moldova’s European path and continuing joint efforts to manage refugee flows from Ukraine. The Moldovan minister emphasized the vital role of international partners in implementing the temporary protection regime for Ukrainian refugees, which has contributed to safeguarding their rights and facilitating their social integration.
The Prague Process Senior Officials Meeting provides an essential platform for participating states to share best practices and discuss the future of cooperation on migration and asylum issues.
The Prague Process continues to serve as a key mechanism for dialogue on migration between the 50 participating States from the EU and the region, promoting collaboration and coordination in addressing contemporary migration challenges.
