Moldova’s European integration is about more than aligning with EU standards. It is about strengthening a state situated on the eastern border of the European space, in a region shaped by war, hybrid threats, cross-border crime, and security challenges that extend beyond national borders.
Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with Adrienn Király, Director at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST).
The discussions focused on the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ progress in implementing Chapter 24, Justice, Freedom, and Security, as well as Moldova’s growing contribution to the European security architecture.
In the current regional context, reforms in the home affairs sector carry strategic importance. They enhance the state’s ability to protect its citizens, manage border-related risks, and combat organized crime, human trafficking, cybercrime, illicit arms trafficking, and other threats that affect both Moldova and the European space.
Minister Misail-Nichitin emphasized that Moldova is advancing steadily in the accession process as a responsible candidate country and a committed partner in strengthening European security. Through improved border management, enhanced operational cooperation with European agencies, expanded information exchange, digital transformation, and institutional capacity-building, the Ministry of Internal Affairs contributes both to the security of Moldovan citizens and to the protection of the European area.
Looking ahead, Moldova’s efforts are focused on implementing the Reform Agenda, delivering on the priorities set out in the Enlargement Package, and advancing the benchmarks under Chapter 24. These commitments not only support the country’s EU accession path, but also reinforce its role within the European security framework.
Cooperation with the European Union continues to accelerate the modernization of the home affairs sector and strengthen Moldova’s capacity to act as a reliable security partner on Europe’s eastern border. This support translates into more resilient institutions, better services, and greater security for citizens.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs remains committed to turning the European agenda into tangible results: a safer state, stronger institutions, and a Republic of Moldova that is increasingly integrated into European security space.
