Communities to be better prepared for emergencies: Government approves Civil Protection Plan for 2026

Citizens across the country will receive training from the IGSU Republican Training Center to respond quickly and effectively in case of earthquakes, fires, floods, or other emergencies. Today, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft Civil Protection Preparedness Plan for 2026.

The plan outlines nationwide training programs, practical exercises, and inspections to ensure communities are better prepared for risks such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and industrial accidents. Measures include local and national simulation exercises, specialized training for key staff in public and private institutions, and lessons for schoolchildren and students on how to react in dangerous situations. Additionally, inspections will be carried out on protective shelters, hydrotechnical structures, and industrial facilities with potential risks.

In several districts of the country (Anenii Noi, Briceni, Cantemir, Soldanesti, Basarabeasca, Causeni, Leova, and Donduseni), practical exercises will be organized, giving residents the opportunity to practice real-life scenarios of earthquakes, severe floods, and industrial accidents. Special attention will be given to pupils and students, who will actively participate in the Safety School program. Teachers, school principals, and kindergarten educators will also receive training to help make educational institutions safer environments.

The project also includes training sessions at national control laboratories, where simulations will be carried out on detecting radioactive, chemical, and biological substances in the environment – an important exercise for safeguarding public health.

Through these measures, the Ministry of Internal Affairs aims to build a culture of safety as a shared responsibility, ensuring that every citizen knows how to protect their own life while contributing to the safety of the community. The decision will take effect on January 1, 2026.
