The Republic of Moldova has been and remains in solidarity with the people of Türkiye who suffered from the devastating earthquakes in early Februarie.
In this context, Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco attended online the Brussels International Donors’ Conference in support of the people in Türkiye and Syria. The meeting was chaired by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson and aimed to mobilise the international community to alleviate the consequences in the earthquake-affected areas of the both countries.
In the context of natural disasters, our country sent on Februarie 6, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, its aid package to the Republic of Türkiye.
In this regard, a GIES team of 56 rescuers specialized in Urban Search and Rescue, equipped with 12 fully autonomous intervention vehicles and 2 search dogs has intervened for 7 consecutive days in risk areas in the Republic of Türkiye.
During today’s meeting, Minister Ana Revenco announced that in solidarity with the Turkish people, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has identified a batch of essential goods worth more than 8 million MDL to be provided as humanitarian aid to the victims in Türkiye.
The decision comes in response to the request of the Turkish Government made to the international community, given that the extent of the damage caused by the earthquakes of Februarie 6 and 7 exceeds the national response capacities.
Please note that food and hygiene products for adults, food and care products for children and babies, pillows, blankets, towels, protective masks and other goods will be delivered as soon as possible.
It should be recalled that during the international mission, the GIES employees succeeded in rescuing a 3-year-old boy from the rubble of an apartment building, where he had been for more than 4 days. Also, the Moldovan specialists, jointly with rescuers from Hungary, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Turkey, carried out assessment work on buildings and recovery of dead bodies.
