The management of the refugee crisis and humanitarian crises were the main topics during the meeting of the MIA leadership and the head of the country mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doris El Doueihy.
During the discussions, the commitments between the institutions were reiterated and new prospects for cooperation in the field of internal affairs were identified, especially the management of the flow of refugees and humanitarian crises.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, thanked for the actions taken by the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Republic of Moldova in the context of the humanitarian crisis in the region, and for the assistance provided by the ICRC to the Republic of Moldova.
“We are grateful for the assistance provided by the ICRC to victims of unjustified aggression in Ukraine, as many people have found shelter, refuge and counseling in our country. We count on continued fruitful cooperation and welcome the initiatives of the ICRC team in the Republic of Moldova”, said Adrian Efros.
Those present spoke about the implementation of temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine, in terms of ensuring the right to social, accommodation, medical and educational services for refugees, taking into account the order and security of our state, but also about the proactive actions undertaken by Republic of Moldova.
Likewise, the latest updates on the number of refugees who registered and received temporary protection in Moldova were presented. Approximately 110,000 Ukrainian refugees are currently hosted in the Republic of Moldova. More than 1 million people have crossed the territory of our country since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. At the same time, since the beginning of the implementation of temporary protection, more than 21 thousand Ukrainians have become beneficiaries of identity documents, of which almost 7000 are children.
