The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) has been equipped with six new mobile police units enabling officers to document cases, coordinate responses, and manage situations directly on site. The units support real-time information processing, allowing officers to provide help to citizens without relying on fixed offices. As a result, people will no longer need to travel to police stations in other localities.
In addition, the IGP fleet has been expanded with eight pickup trucks intended for operational interventions, along with modern protective and technical equipment required for field activities. This equipment will enable police officers to operate effectively in difficult environments and in all seasons, ensuring that assistance reaches those in need more quickly, including in hard-to-reach areas or in emergency situations where mobility is critical to response time.
“This donation represents more than just equipment. It means faster response times, improved mobility, more efficient access on site, and better working conditions for police officers who serve the public every day”, said Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin.
“We welcome this support, which directly strengthens the police’s capabilities and helps align them with the highest standards. Access to modern vehicles allows us to respond more quickly and effectively, enhancing public safety and improving working conditions for police officers”, said Chief of National Police, Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
The project “Strengthening Police Capacities in the Areas of Public Order and Combating Cybercrime in Moldova”, funded by the U.S. Government through the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), has a strategic dimension. While its first phase focuses on supporting public order interventions, the next phase will develop the police’s capacity to combat cybercrime.
The initiative is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova.
