Minister of Interior Affairs Ana Revenco had an official meeting with Minister for Civil Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden Carl-Oskar Bohlin.
Given that the Republic of Moldova’s application to join the EU Civil Protection Mechanism was accepted last November, Minister Revenco noted that our country’s objective is to become a regional and international security provider by strengthening Moldova’s position and by deploying employees of MIA subdivisions on humanitarian, assistance, and natural disaster relief missions.
In this regard, the aim is to jointly develop technical assistance projects to strengthen the professional skills of rescuers and firefighters in fire response actions and other exceptional situations in multi-story buildings; the use of geospatial information systems and innovative operational technologies in fire prevention and suppression; the creation of command-and-control systems for the management of rescue and fire-fighting operations.
Also, the opportunity was analysed for the participation of Moldovan rescuers and firefighters in study visits, trainings and exercises in Sweden and/or under the aegis of Swedish counterparts.
At the same time, the two ministers discussed the multiple false bomb alerts and the way the Republic of Moldova managed to tackle them. Thus, the Minister of Interior Affairs mentioned that Moldova needs support and assistance to protect the EU borders and neighbouring regions, this means digitising processes and also support for the technical equipment of the Ministry of Interior.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Revenco officially invited Minister Bohlin to the Republic of Moldova to sign a Memorandum of cooperation, including a concrete action plan on civil protection.
