Strengthening Bilateral Relations: Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs Visits Azerbaijan

On May 24-25, 2024, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, along with the Head of the General Migration Inspectorate of MIA, Mihail Voda, is undertaking an official visit to Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the field of home affairs.

During this visit, the Agreement on cooperation between the Moldovan and Azerbaijani ministries of internal affairs was signed.

During the bilateral meeting with Vilayat Suleyman oglu Eivazov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, the development of political dialogue and the intensification of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

Minister Adrian Efros emphasized Moldova’s interest in enhancing the political dialogue with Azerbaijan based on international law principles and standards, as well as mutual support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries.

The Moldovan official highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries and acknowledged the efforts to deepen cooperation in internal affairs.

He also appreciated the introduction of regular direct flights between Chisinau and Baku, which will operate three times a week starting September 15, 2023. This development is seen as an important step in facilitating bilateral exchanges and encouraging direct contacts between the citizens of the two countries.

During the discussions, it was agreed to expand the development agenda of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to include the following:

– Establishing a mechanism for the mutual exchange of statistical data and information on cross-border crimes and other illegal acts committed by Moldovan citizens in Azerbaijan and vice versa, with a particular focus on involvement in illegal activities.

– Exchanging data on criminal groups, their modus operandi and investigative techniques.

The visit reaffirms the commitment of the Moldovan Government to intensifying bilateral cooperation and identifying potential areas of interaction, highlighting the considerable potential of the relations between the two countries.
