MIA State Secretary Andrei Cecoltan attended the Steering Committee meeting of the DG NEAR funded project ’Supporting the protection, transit, voluntary and informed return of citizens from affected Eastern Partnership countries and third country residents to the Eastern Neighbourhood region affected by the conflict in Ukraine’.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, delegates from the European Commission and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The officials jointly assessed the progress that has been made since the first year of implementation of the EU-funded project, which aims to provide protection and safe transit of Ukrainian citizens who have fled the war and third-country nationals affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
Participants have also endorsed several amendments to the current year’s plan to facilitate border crossings and strengthen the capacity of national authorities to process more efficiently frontline border arrivals.
Please note that the project implemented by the IOM and funded by the EU’s NDICI – GE (Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument – Global Europe) consists of counselling services, consular support, assistance with accommodation and ground transportation, airline reservations, departure and transit support, cash assistance and reintegration assistance for refugees.
