The Republic of Moldova will initiate the update of the Readmission Protocol with Romania under the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Community on the readmission of persons residing without authorization, signed in Brussels on October 10, 2007. The draft decision in this sense was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The proposed update is technical and legal in nature, aimed at aligning the existing framework to current institutional and operational realities, as well as to recent developments in cross-border cooperation between the authorities of the two countries.
The amendments provide for the updating of the competent authorities involved in readmission procedures, the extension of these procedures to all common border crossing points, including newly established ones, and the clarification and simplification of evidentiary requirements for determining the nationality of persons subject to readmission.
At the same time, transfer procedures are streamlined through the reduction of administrative formalities, including the removal of the reporting form previously required for unescorted air transfers. The provisions governing escorted returns and transit operations have also been further clarified, including notification requirements in the event of incidents, while mechanisms for cooperation and communication between the competent authorities of both parties have been strengthened.
These adjustments are expected to reduce the time needed to review and process cases, enhance the clarity and consistency of procedures, and ensure more effective management of irregular migration, within a framework of strengthened cooperation between Moldova and Romania.
