Chisinau, September 23, 2024 – Minister of Internal Affairs Adrian Efros, accompanied by State Secretary Mariana Lucrețeanu, met today with Anne-Marie Deutschlander, the new Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Republic of Moldova. The meeting took place in the context of Ms. Deutschlander taking up her new role, with Minister Efros emphasizing the importance of continuing this strategic partnership.
Minister Efros congratulated Ms. Deutschlander on her new position, underscoring the vital role UNHCR plays in Moldova, particularly in managing the refugee crisis. “It is an honour to strengthen our collaboration with UNHCR, a trusted partner that has been instrumental in providing humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable. The Ministry of Internal Affairs remains committed to advocating for the rights of refugees and supporting their integration into our communities,” he stated.
The minister also highlighted recent initiatives, such as upgrading the infrastructure of the General Inspectorate for Migration and developing new assisted voluntary repatriation programs. “We are dedicated to improving conditions for refugees and displaced persons, and this partnership will yield long-term benefits for everyone involved,” said the Minister, reaffirming his personal commitment to this goal.
The meeting included discussions on future collaboration priorities, such as enhancing capacity to manage migration flows and implementing joint projects to better integrate refugees into Moldovan society. Minister Efros announced that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and UNHCR will soon sign a new Memorandum of Cooperation to strengthen their work in migration management and refugee protection, highlighting once again the Minister’s leadership and vision for this partnership.
