Chisinau, Februarie 14, 2024 – Andrei Cecoltan, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, had a bilateral meeting with a delegation from the French National Gendarmerie and the French Embassy in Bucharest. The delegation was led by Major General André Petillot, Deputy Director General of the French National Gendarmerie.
The primary aim of the discussions was to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of security, particularly focusing on the exchange of expertise and best practices between the Republic of Moldova and France. The Secretary of State stressed the importance of maintaining close cooperation between the two countries in law enforcement and public order. He expressed gratitude for the support provided by the French National Gendarmerie in achieving objectives related to the development of the Carabinieri’s capabilities for participation in international missions under the UN auspices, as well as for the support for the General Inspectorate of Carabinieri (ICG) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the process of joining FIEP and EUROGENDFOR as observer. Membership in these two international organizations will enable the Republic of Moldova to become a regional and international security provider.
Officials also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in training law enforcement agencies, and exchanging experts in areas relevant to national security.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Cecoltan reaffirmed Moldova’s steadfast commitment to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with France and highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue between the security authorities of the two countries.
