State Secretary Mariana Lucrețeanu had an online discussion with her Romanian counterpart, Necula Mihai Cătălin. The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation in migration and border management, prevention of illegal border crossings, particularly at the green border, Romania’s support to the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, and exploration of new opportunities for collaboration in these areas.
Mariana Lucrețeanu highlighted the crucial role of Romania’s consistent support in Moldova’s journey towards EU integration. She noted that with the opening of accession negotiations, Moldova is making sustained efforts to join the European Union, including by implementing the EU acquis and strengthening internal capacities.
In the context of the war in Ukraine, Moldova remains committed to providing shelter and protection to Ukrainian refugees and facilitating their social integration. The State Secretary emphasized that the temporary protection introduced in March 2023 ensures a stable legal status and inclusion opportunities for refugees.
Several priorities were identified during the meeting, including the implementation of professional capacity-building assistance projects, exchanging experiences and best practices, and developing training and reform programs aligned with EU standards.
This discussion served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation between Moldova and Romania to ensure security and stability in the region.
