The ’Protocol between the General Inspectorate of Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, the Customs Service subordinated to the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, State Tax Service of Ukraine on the organization of joint control at the joint railway crossing point Basarabeasca-Serpniovo-1 on the territory of the Republic of Moldova’ was signed today, March 22nd, 2023.
The four heads of the border and customs institutions of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have signed the Protocol during a meeting held in a hybrid format in Basarabeasca, thus recording another symbolic sign of friendship between the two countries.
The launch of the joint control at the Basarabeasca – Serpniovo-1 railway border crossing point is aimed at strengthening cooperation at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, which would contribute to diversify the cargo transportation routes with Ukraine, ensure access of the Republic of Moldova to the main regional transportation routes for various types of fuels, as well as grain exports from Ukraine.
It also makes a significant contribution to the development of the bilateral dialogue on joint border security, public order, economic well-being of the both countries and the fight against organised cross-border crime.
Please note that, the activity is part of the EU initiative – solidarity lines, which aims to ensure the flow of goods to and from Ukraine.
The starting date of the joint control shall be agreed by the management of the crossing point.
NOTE: The concerned Protocol is an instrument for the implementation of the provisions of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on joint control of persons, vehicles, goods and items at the border crossings points on the Ukraine-Moldova state border of October 6, 2017.
Currently, the joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border is being carried out at six road border crossing points, with one temporarily suspended, on the Transnistrian segment – Pervomaisc-Kuchurhan.
