First peacekeeping mission for Ministry of Internal Affairs employees in Kosovo

On April 19, 2024, a historic event took place as three employees of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were officially deployed for an international peacekeeping mission in Kosovo as part of the Multinational Peacekeeping Forces.

The solemn ceremony saw the presence of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, the Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Moldova, Lorenzo Tomassoni, the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii, the leadership of the General Inspectorate of Carabineers of MIA and the families of the deployed carabineers.

Minister Efros stressed the importance of the involvement of the Moldovan carabineers in international missions, emphasizing, “The participation of our carabineers in the international mission not only fulfills our commitments under the UN Charter and international treaties, but also greatly contributes to championing democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This mission in Kosovo offers an opportunity for these brave employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to demonstrate their professional skills and expertise, while enhancing the Republic of Moldova’s standing in the international arena”.

Ambassador Lorenzo Tomassoni praised the valuable contribution of the carabineer deployment on the European stage, emphasizing Moldova’s commitment to swiftly moving toward European Union accession.

“Our shared goal is to see this deployment followed by a carabineer platoon, a contingent in the true sense of the word working alongside Italian colleagues. Through its carabineers, Moldova is contributing to international security, particularly in the Balkans, whose stability is crucial for the European Union”, he remarked.

Minister Nosatii urged the three carabineers to approach their mission in Kosovo with honor, dedication and devotion, assuring them that their professionalism will be recognized and respected by both colleagues and mission command.

“I encourage the deployed carabineers to demonstrate responsibility and dedication to this important peacekeeping mission in the Western Balkans”, he concluded.

Captain Luchianic, one of the three deployed carabineers, emphasized the importance of cooperation and stability in the region, stating, “It is both an honor and responsibility for us, the three carabineer employees, to represent with dignity the General Inspectorate of Carabineers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Republic of Moldova, in this international peacekeeping mission, where we will engage in stabilization and peacekeeping efforts alongside with representatives from over 20 countries”.

The involvement of the Moldovan carabineers in international missions ensures compliance with the commitments under the UN Charter, treaties with the European Union, and other international organizations or third states, and represents a significant contribution to maintaining international peace, security and stability, as well as promoting respect for fundamental human rights, freedoms, and the rule of law.
