Advancing security cooperation between Moldova and the Netherlands

On November 28, 2024, Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with His Excellency Fred Duijn, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Moldova, accompanied by Police Attaché Johannes Cornelis Maasdam.

The discussions centred on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries, focusing on critical areas such combating organized crime and trafficking in human beings, bolstering cybersecurity and preventing illegal funding in electoral processes.

Minister Misail-Nichitin expressed her appreciation for the financial and technical support provided by the Netherlands for strengthening Moldova’s national capacities in cybersecurity and refugee crisis management. She also highlighted Moldova’s openness to share its expertise and best practices in refugee crisis management with other countries.

Additionally, the minister informed the delegation about the recent amendments approved by Government to the law on preventing and combating organized crime. These changes align Moldova’s legislative framework with EUROPOL standards, reinforcing the country’s commitment to international security cooperation.

Another key topic of discussion was the results and priorities of the EU Hub for Internal Security and Border Management in the Republic of Moldova. To strengthen collaboration between national and international institutions in combating various forms of crime, the Dutch delegation proposed organizing joint sessions for police officers and prosecutors to exchange expertise and best practices. The meeting also highlighted leveraging the Netherland’s expertise to enhance the effectiveness of Moldova’s efforts in combating online crime.
