Moldova has joined the international community of fire and emergency services by participating in the second World Fire Congress, held on 8 – 9 September 2026 in London, United Kingdom.
Moldova was represented by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Victor Grosu, and the Deputy Head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant-Colonel Alexandr Tatarov. Hosted by the National Council of Fire Service Chiefs in the United Kingdom, the Congress brought together representatives of fire and emergency services, government authorities, researchers and experts from over 60 countries.
Over the course of two days, participants discussed the challenges facing communities and emergency services, including fire prevention, building and heritage safety, disaster preparedness, climate change, the management of large-scale emergencies, emerging risks, and the health and safety of firefighters. International cooperation and the exchange of experience were central to the discussions, as risks are becoming increasingly complex and some emergencies can have consequences that extend beyond national borders.
During the Congress Moldova signed the Declaration on Founding Principles and Objectives, which sets out common principles and objectives regarding international cooperation, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and the development of joint solutions for preventing and managing fires and other emergencies. By signing the Declaration, Moldova has joined the international community of the World Fire Congress, creating new opportunities for dialogue and cooperation with fire and emergency services from other countries.
Participation in the Congress also provided an opportunity for the Moldovan delegation to present the country’s experience and capabilities in emergency prevention and response, while learning from international best practices and solutions that can contribute to the further development of Moldova’s civil protection and emergency response system.
The World Fire Congress is held every two years. The inaugural Congress took place in 2024 in Washington D.C., United States. At the conclusion of the 2026 Congress, responsibility for hosting the next edition was handed over to the United Arab Emirates, which will host the third World Fire Congress in 2028.
