Foreign nationals and asylum seekers will benefit from faster, clearer, and more user-friendly services as the migration and asylum system undergoes modernization. The new changes aim to simplify procedures, improve reception conditions, and ensure stronger protection of the rights of people in the migration process.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is implementing these reforms through the Twinning Project, carried out in partnership with the European Union and supported by Romania, Sweden, and Greece. The project contributes to improving the legal framework and strengthening the capacities of the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM), so that the services provided meet European standards.
The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Diana Salcuțan, participated today in the third meeting of the Project Steering Committee, where she highlighted MIA’s progress and priorities in this field.
“The reorganization of the General Inspectorate for Migration is meant to transform the institution into one that is more flexible and closer to people – capable of responding quickly to the needs of migrants, refugees, and Moldovan citizens. Through modernization, we are providing clearer, safer, and faster services, in line with European standards”, stated Diana Salcuțan.
In August 2025, a new Regulation on the organization and functioning of the GIM was approved, introducing a modern structure adapted to current realities, without disrupting existing processes and services. Furthermore, in October, the Government adopted the National Programme on Migration and Asylum for 2026 – 2030, which will ensure better management of migration flows and quality services for all those who turn to the GIM.
Through these reforms, Moldova is taking a concrete step toward a safe, humane, and European migration and asylum system – for the benefit of everyone who lives, works, or seeks shelter in our country.
