Enhanced border security, faster procedures, and modern technologies for managing migration and cross-border traffic are the key objectives of the EU4Borders Security – Moldova project, officially launched by the Border Police.
The launch event brought together high-level representatives of Moldova and the European Union, including the Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin, representatives of the European Commission, the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, and the ambassadors of Lithuania and Poland. Their participation reconfirmed the EU’s strong support for strengthening Moldova’s security and stability.
The EU4Borders Security – Moldova project supports the Government of Moldova in aligning border and migration management with European Union standards and the Schengen acquis. It contributes to the country’s preparations for EU accession and to the development of a border management system that is resilient to current security challenges. These efforts represent important steps towards a secure and modern European border, in line with Chapter 24 Justice, Freedom and Security, of the EU accession process.
A dedicated panel discussion focused on the role of modern technologies in integrated border management. The Head of the General Inspectorate of Border Police, Ruslan Galușca, together with other experts, highlighted that digital solutions and state-of-the-art equipment can enhance security, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and ensure respect for human rights.
The first meeting of the project’s Steering Committee also took place, during which national authorities and international partners agreed on the key directions for the implementation and coordination of planned activities.
The initiative is funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium comprising of the Central Project Management Agency, the PL Solidarity Fund, and the International Organization for Migration in Moldova.
