Investments in equipment, training, and professional expertise are the cornerstone of a modern civil protection system capable of responding to today’s evolving risks – from natural disasters to complex emergencies and emerging threats.
Under the multi-year project “Danish Civil Protection Initiative in Moldova 2025–2028”, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has received its first donation of equipment. The initial batch includes 150 self-contained breathing apparatus sets for firefighters, complete with spare parts and testing stands, as well as 220 sets of personal protective equipment. This investment will enhance the safety of firefighters and rescuers during complex operations, support alignment with European occupational health and safety standards, and reduce professional risks in cases of fires, industrial accidents, and emergencies involving hazardous substances.
Through this initiative, Moldova is strengthening its capacity for prevention, rapid response, and effective inter-institutional coordination in emergency management.
The official handover ceremony, held at the IGSU headquarters in Chisinau, was attended by Daniela Misail-Nichitin, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Søren Jensen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Moldova, and Simone Gundtoft Christerson, Special Attaché for Crisis Management at the Danish Embassy.
“The safety of our citizens remains our top priority. Every investment in civil protection translates into lives saved, stronger community resilience, and greater public trust in state institutions. Our firefighters and rescuers are becoming better equipped, better trained, and prepared to respond swiftly and professionally in any situation”, Minister Misail-Nichitin stated.
The “Danish Initiative for Civil Protection in Moldova 2025-2028” project is funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and implemented by the Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and IGSU. Throughout the implementation period, firefighters and rescuers will benefit from advanced equipment, specialized training programs, and access to internationally recognized Danish expertise.
The program aims to reinforce Moldova’s emergency prevention and response system, enhance intervention planning, strengthen early warning and risk assessment mechanisms, and further improve inter-agency coordination in crisis management.
