Moldova and Ukraine will establish a new road border crossing point and build a cross-border road bridge over the Nistru River, following the signing, on Februarie 10, 2026 in Kiev, of a Protocol between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The Protocol provides the legal framework for the creation of the new road crossing point. It will become operational once the necessary infrastructure is completed, facilitating international traffic and enhancing the mobility of citizens.
The document also provides for the construction of a cross-border road bridge over the Nistru River, which will further ease international transit and simplify procedures for residents of border areas.
Also in Kyiv, on the sidelines of Prime Minister’ Alexandru Munteanu’s working visit, the Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, held a bilateral meeting with her Ukrainian counterpart Ihor Klymenko. The discussions focused on:
- Extending temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in Moldova;
- Cooperation in the areas of migration and readmission;
- Strengthening border security and facilitating the transit of strategic goods;
- Enhancing operational cooperation between the Moldovan and Ukrainian Police.
At the same time, a humanitarian convoy organized by the Government of the Republic of Moldova is arriving in Kyiv to deliver an assistance package worth nearly €700,000 to support the population affected by the war in Ukraine. The donation includes:
- Five firefighting and rescue vehicles to support rapid and complex emergency interventions;
- Mobile power stations equipped with diesel generators to ensure backup electricity for hospitals, operational centers, and other critical infrastructure;
- Medical equipment for first aid and emergency response, aimed at saving lives and improving the management of critical situations;
- Basic food supplies and essential household goods to help meet the daily needs of affected families.
All items were prepared and assembled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the Material Resources Agency, and the Ministry’s Medical Service, with support from public-sector partners, including RED NORD.
“This action is a genuine expression of friendship and a firm declaration that Moldova stands with Ukraine and its people in their fight for peace and human dignity. Our solidarity does not waver; it goes stronger in the face of challenges and remains anchored in the values we share – respect for life, human rights and hope for a better future,” said Minister Misail-Nichitin.
This initiative reaffirms Moldova’s solidarity with Ukraine and its people, demonstrating concrete support, responsibility, and strong bilateral cooperation in these challenging times.
