Ministry of Internal Affairs presents progress on the implementation of the Single Point of Contact

Today, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a report was presented on Moldova’s preparedness for establishing the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) – a mechanism designed to facilitate information exchange between law enforcement authorities in line with European Union standards.

The SPOC will enhance police cooperation and the exchange of information among law enforcement agencies, in accordance with Directive (EU) 2023/977 of the European Parliament and of the Council. This mechanism will strengthen efforts to combat cross-border crime and improve the security of citizens.

The event was attended by Andrei Cecoltan, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs; Chief Superintendent Viorel Cernăuțeanu, Head of the General Police Inspectorate, as well as representatives of the European Union Delegation, CEPOL, and various units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“The transposition of this directive is not only a legal obligation, but also an opportunity for Moldova to modernize its cooperation tools and, together with its European partners, contribute to common security. This report offers a clear overview of the current level of preparedness and the actions required to ensure full interoperability with the European Union Member States”, said Andrei Cecoltan.

Developed under the EU4Security Moldova project, the report assesses both the measures already implemented and those still needed to achieve interoperability with the cooperation systems of EU member states.

The implementation of the SPOC mechanism is one of the key actions outlined in Chapter 24 Justice, Freedom and Security of the European Union accession process, in which the Ministry of Internal Affairs plays a leading role.
