The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, met with Ulrich Schmitt, Country Manager of the World Bank Group for the Republic of Moldova, to discuss ongoing projects and future areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the World Bank.
Minister Misail-Nichitin congratulated Mr. Schmitt on his appointment to this position, effective July 1, 2025, and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in a sustainable and effective partnership that directly benefits citizens.
Discussions focused on strengthening institutional modernization, ensuring that public institutions are better equipped to meet people’s needs and deliver higher-quality, more accessible services.
The World Bank is currently supporting projects that facilitate the integration of refugees and foreign nationals by improving access to information, fostering social cohesion, and enhancing institutional capacity at both national and local levels. In addition, initiatives in disaster risk management and climate resilience are helping authorities and communities prepare more effectively, protecting both people and infrastructure.
A new project focused on resilience and migrant integration will strengthen refugee protection systems, support the inclusion of host communities, and ensure alignment with European standards.
The World Bank representative also expressed readiness to further develop sustainable initiatives in areas such as risk reduction, disaster response at both national and global levels, and support for the Medical Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This includes providing modern equipment and specialized vehicles to enhance firefighters’ capacity to prevent and respond to fires and natural disasters.
Minister Misail-Nichitin underlined the importance of continuing this cooperation: “Together we are building stronger institutions and safer communities. The benefits of these projects are directly felt in people’s lives – through improved services, enhanced protection, and greater social inclusion.”
