Implementation of coordinated control at the Giurgiulești – Galați Border Crossing Point

Starting August 24, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., the border and customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania will introduce a coordinated control procedure at the Giurgiulești – Galați border crossing point, on the entry side into Romania.

This new system is designed to speed up and simplify cross-border traffic, reducing waiting times for both passengers and freight carriers.

Under the new procedure, checks will still be carried out separately by Moldova’s exit authorities and Romania’s entry authorities, but all controls will take place on Romanian territory. The key difference from the previous practice is that travellers will no longer undergo exit checks on the Moldova side. Instead, all inspections will be carried out only upon entry into Romania.

The introduction of coordinated control represents an important step toward streamlining traffic at the common border and further strengthening cooperation between the border and customs authorities of Moldova and Romania.
