Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin held a farewell meeting with the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, who is concluding his four-year mandate in the country.
The Minister expressed her gratitude to the Ambassador for the strong partnership and EU’s contribution to strengthening the operational capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, modernizing the internal affairs system, and improving public services.
During his tenure, the EU supported more than 113 projects with a total budget exceeding €105 million. These initiatives covered a wide range of areas, including public order, security, human rights, social inclusion, cybersecurity, the fight against arms trafficking, emergency management, and border control.
Achievements include the renovation of police stations, the provision of IT equipment, body-worn cameras, and specialized vehicles, the establishment of a cybercrime laboratory, the expansion of SMURD units and the TETRA communication network, as well as the organization of training programs and exchanges of experience.
The Minister underlined that the European Union remains a key partner in our shared commitment to Moldova’s development: a European Moldova!
In recognition of his outstanding contribution and support for granting EU candidate status to the Republic of Moldova, the Ambassador was awarded the MIA Medal “For Cooperation”.
