Crisis management and the continuity of institutional operations in the context of evolving security challenges were the key topics discussed during a meeting between the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Bejan, and Christophe Lhomme, Head of Section at NATO Defense and Security Cooperation Directorate.
The discussions focused on strengthening the capacities of the Ministry’s subdivisions to ensure operational continuity in situations such as emergencies, natural disasters, or security threats. Particular attention was given to participation in specialized training, joint exercises, and the continuous updating of business continuity plans.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs highlighted its ongoing efforts and the priority it places on the National Small Arms and Light Weapons Control Program for 2026 – 2030 (SALW). The program is designed to support national authorities in preventing illegal circulation of weapons, maintaining accurate records, and enhancing the professional training of relevant personnel.
The officials also reviewed current regional challenges, including the risks related to the illicit trafficking of goods subject to special regulations and the use of emerging technologies for criminal purposes.
They discussed ways to prevent and counter these threats through strengthened international cooperation. The meeting underscored the value of experience-sharing with international partners, contributing to enhanced institutional response capacity, improved interagency coordination, and, ultimately, better protection of citizens.
