Drivers who violate traffic rules in the Republic of Moldova with vehicles registered in other countries will be easier to identify and faster to penalize. The government has approved amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses to establish clearer rules in this area.
Currently, the law sets out general procedures for detecting and sanctioning violations, but it does not sufficiently regulate situations in which offences are committed using vehicles registered abroad. The new provisions will enable the exchange of information with authorities in other countries in order to identify vehicle owners and the individuals responsible for the violations.
The changes will strengthen the enforcement of penalties and ensure equal treatment for all drivers, whether they are from the Republic of Moldova or from other countries. At the same time, they will contribute to improving road safety. Since 2022, the number of road accidents has been on a downward trend. Compared to last year, the number of fatalities in road accidents has decreased by 10%.
The objective is to further prevent road accidents and enhance the safety of citizens in traffic through joint efforts, both legislative measures and improvements in road safety infrastructure, including proper traffic signage, increased awareness and responsibility among road users, and firm action by the police.
