A secure border means a safer country, stronger institutions, and citizens who can travel with confidence.
In this spirit, the Border Police, in partnership with the European Union, is carrying out an assessment exercise on the implementation of Integrated State Border Management (ISBM) from October 20 to 24, 2025, as part of the European Union for Border Security (EU4Border Security) project. The initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacities, modernize control procedures, and align them with European security standards.
The opening ceremony was attended by Diana Salcuțan, State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Bonnin-Corina Mocanu, First Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs at the European Union Delegation to Moldova, and Agnė Vereškienė, project team leader.
In her address, Diana Salcuțan emphasized that the event serves as practical demonstration of the progress achieved by the Republic of Moldova in aligning with European standards for integrated border management:
“Today’s exercise gives us the opportunity to test and refine the mechanisms that underpin a sustainable state border management system. It is an essential step to ensure that our institutions are prepared to respond effectively to current security challenges – from migration and cross-border crime to hybrid and digital threats.”
The State Secretary underlined that the exercise also reflects the joint efforts of national institutions and international partners, and that its outcomes will contribute to bringing Moldova closer to the European family.
The program includes visits to several Border Police subdivisions – Chisinau International Airport, Sculeni Sector, and Cahul Sector – where participants will analyse control procedures, interagency coordination, and the use of modern technologies. The exercise brings together representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Inspectorate of Border Police, the General Inspectorate of Police, the Customs Service, and the General Inspectorate for Migration.
In conclusion, the Secretary of State expressed her gratitude to the European Union and implementing partners for their continued support in enhancing security capacities, professional training, and interoperability, emphasizing that these investments directly contribute to border security and to strengthening mutual trust between national and European institutions.
Through the European Union Border Security Project, Moldova is reinforcing its border management system by fostering institutional cooperation, ensuring rapid information exchange, integrating modern technologies, and providing continuous staff training – tangible steps toward a secure, modern, and European border.
