Moldova needs to strengthen its preparedness to address security risks in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing environment. This is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the development of effective prevention and response mechanisms at the core of its cooperation with international partners.
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexandru Bejan, discussed these priorities with Piers Cazalet, Director of the Defence and Security Cooperation at NATO’s International Staff. The discussions focused on strengthening Moldova’s capabilities and identifying areas where Moldova and NATO can further develop their cooperation.
Drones, cyber-attacks, online fraud and disinformation are creating new security risks that require tailored tools and response mechanisms. In this context, the discussions focused on strengthening early warning systems, enhancing risk prevention and ensuring that institutions are able to coordinate their actions effectively in crisis situations.
Key areas discussed included the protection of critical infrastructure, border security, countering hybrid threats and the training of MIA staff. The objective is to ensure that personnel have the knowledge, skills and tools needed to carry out their responsibilities effectively, while institutions are equipped to identify risks at an early stage and respond swiftly when necessary.
A well-prepared state means better-protected communities and public services that can respond effectively to unforeseen situations. The Ministry of the Internal Affairs will continue to strengthen these capabilities, drawing on NATO’s expertise and experience.
