Good news for the Moldovan diaspora in Ireland. Moldovan citizens living in Ireland will soon be able to exchange their driving licenses without having to take additional theoretical or practical exams, following the Government’s approval of the Agreement between the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ireland on the exchange of driving licenses, signed in Dublin on April 8, 2026.
Under this Agreement, Moldovan citizens legally residing in Ireland will be able to obtain an Irish driving license through a simplified procedure, in accordance with the terms and conditions set out in the document.
The measure will facilitate the access to employment opportunities, enhance mobility, and support the social integration of Moldovan nationals living abroad.
The Agreement establishes the framework for the mutual recognition of valid driving licenses, defines the procedures for exchange and equivalence of driving license categories between the two states.
Moldova has already concluded similar arrangements with Turkey, Lithuania, Israel, Albania, Spain, Greece, France, Latvia, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a joint declaration with Germany. The approval of this Agreement marks another important step in supporting Moldovan nationals living abroad and further aligning national practices with European standards.
