Government approves establishment of the “Ungheni–Ungheni” border crossing point

The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved the establishment of the new “Ungheni–Ungheni” international road border crossing point, which will be officially incorporated into the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Romania on state border crossing points through an amending protocol.

The new crossing point will be part of the infrastructure associated with the road bridge over the Prut River and will contribute to the direct integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European road transport network.

The establishment of the “Ungheni–Ungheni” crossing point will help redistribute traffic flows and ease pressure on existing border crossing points, particularly Leușeni – Albița and Sculeni -Sculeni border crossing. This is expected to reduce waiting times at the border, while facilitating the movement of people and the transport of goods.

The new border crossing point will also support the expansion of economic exchanges between Moldova and Romania, reduce logistics costs for businesses, and contribute to improved regional connectivity.

The crossing point will become operational upon completion of the cross-border bridge over the Prut River and will provide direct access to Romania’s highway network, including the future A8 Highway, as well as to the TEN-T European transport network.
