Reforms, trust, and security – joint efforts for a European Moldova

A European Moldova stands for security, trust, and equal opportunities for every citizen.

Over the course of two days, experts and key stakeholders involved in implementing the commitments under Chapter 24 Justice, Freedom, and Security gathered to turn European standards into tangible results for people.

The opening session of the extended meeting, entitled “Civil society – partnership for European integration“, was attended by Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin, EU Ambassador Iwona Piórko, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Hubert Knirsch, and Deputy Secretary General of the Government Rodica Crudu.

“Everything we do has a clear purpose: to protect citizens, to strengthen public trust in justice and security institutions, and to implement European standards at the highest level. Every action we take is part of our sustainable development strategy, aimed at building lasting public confidence and ensuring integrated, long-term security”, said Minister of Internal Affairs Misail-Nichitin.

The meeting brought together government authorities, international partners, and representatives of civil society – all those contributing to bringing Moldova closer to the European Union.

Dialogue with civil society remains a cornerstone of this process: the expertise of NGOs, community engagement, and the exchange of international experience make reforms sustainable, transparent, and focused on the real needs of the people.

At the same time, external partners, including the European Union, Germany, the United States, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the United Nations, Romania, and France, continue to support Moldova in strengthening institutional capacities and implementing best European practices.

Chapter 24, coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, focusing on enhancing Moldova’s regulatory, institutional, and operational framework in the areas of justice, internal security, migration, asylum, border management, police and judicial cooperation, as well as data protection and the fight against organized crime.

In recent years, significant legislative and administrative measures have been advanced, contributing to the modernization of law enforcement institutions, improved inter-institutional cooperation, and the development of digital operational management tools.

Through these joint efforts, European integration is becoming a reality, bringing greater security for families, modern institutions, and more efficient public services. This initiative is supported by the “Support for EU Integration” project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by GIZ Moldova.
