The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs attended the 5th meeting of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network

The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs attended the 5th meeting of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network which took place between June 6th-9th in Washington, USA. The meeting was organised by the USA and Romania. This year, the main theme of the platform was the adjustment and evolution of women, peace, and security as a framework for policy change.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Daniela Misail-Nichitin, as the national focal point, brought up innovative solutions that helped the Moldovan authorities to effectively manage the overlapping crises in the context of the war in Ukraine. Many representatives of the international community have appreciated the highest-level organization of the European Political Community Summit on June 1st, event which brought us under the spotlight of the whole world. Likewise, Moldova’s resilience and close cooperation between citizens and authorities in managing the refugee crisis have been held up as an example, including from the perspective of promoting gender policies and protecting the rights of women and children, as one of the most vulnerable categories of people during wartime.

Daniela Misail-Nichitin had several bilateral meetings with representatives of Finnish, Italian, Japanese and Canadian authorities, with whom she discussed further cooperation in the areas of public security, digitisation, training and exchange of experience at institutional level.

The State Secretary talked in Washington about inter-institutional interventions and interoperability as the main lessons learned by the Republic of Moldova in recent times. In this regard, initiatives to fight sexual violence have been welcomed, including the first Family Justice Centre in our country.

The Government of the Republic of Moldova adopted in March 2023 the National Programme for the Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for the years 2023-2027, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
