The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had a meeting on the Concept of organizing disaster prevention activities in the Republic of Moldova with representatives of the World Bank.
The discussions focused on the challenges and needs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in implementing the project. Among them being the improvement of the capacities of the employees involved in the prevention and preparation in case of disasters/emergencies, the implementation of the public early warning system of the population, the elaboration of the national methodology for assessing the seismic risk for buildings, the purchase of high-performance intervention equipment, etc. In particular, the need to implement an early warning system was emphasized, which would increase the preparation capacities of public authorities and contribute to ensuring the correct information of the population in case of dangers generated by emergency and exceptional situations.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, thanked the representatives of the World Bank for the openness and constant support offered to our country in the framework of various development programs and said that innovative functional mechanisms for prevention and rapid response to crises and disasters are indispensable for increasing the degree of safety in society.
We note that the purpose of the concept is to strengthen and create national capacities to respond and manage the effects of emergency/exceptional situations, both in the country and in the context of the provision of security services in the region, considering the status of the Republic of Moldova as a candidate country for the EU.
The representatives of the World Bank reiterated the willingness of the institution to support, through its programs, the achievement of sustainable development priorities, noting their importance in the modernization and provision of quality services for citizens.
