Minister Efros meets with EUBAM delegation: Extending mandate and enhancing cooperation

April 9, 2024 – Minister Adrian Efros met with a delegation from the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), led by Slawomir Pichor, Head of EUBAM.

Discussions primarily focused on extending EUBAM’s mandate until November 2025. They also covered topics such as combating cross-border crime, managing the refugee crisis effectively, and enhancing the capacity of Ministry of Internal Affairs employees to address vulnerabilities identified since the war in Ukraine started.

Given the extended mandate and current challenges, proposals were made to enhance monitoring along the Moldovan-Ukrainian border and establish standard operating procedures for responding promptly to changes in the operational landscape.

Additionally, the talks touched upon establishment and operationalization of inter-institutional collaboration to counter threats and assess ongoing risks in line with the findings of the 9th meeting of the EU Support Hub for Internal Security and State Border Management.

Finally, the officials underscored the importance of maintaining close cooperation among the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and EUBAM to bolster security and uphold standards and procedures aligned with those of EU Member States.
