The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has generously donated 42 prefabricated units, including office units and WASH utility units, to the Material Reserves Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). This contribution will greatly enhance the capabilities of MAI’s temporary crisis management centers by providing essential resources to support its staff presence in the region.
The official handover ceremony was attended by Minister of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, a.i. UNHCR representative in Moldova, Bertrand Blanc, and members of the MAI management team.
In his address, Minister Adrian Efros emphasized the importance of the robust partnership and ongoing support that the Republic of Moldova receives from UNHCR. He remarked, “We have full confidence that this donation will bring significant benefits. The level of safety of our citizens depends on us, and MAI is committed to delivering quality services to ensure their well-being. This generous donation is a crucial step in enhancing our operational capabilities.”
Bertrand Blanc, the a.i. UNHCR representative in Moldova, also highlighted the significance of this collaboration: ”A nation’s proactive preparedness and early engagement are fundamental for a timely and effective response during emergencies, thus UNHCR efforts to strengthen Moldova’s emergency preparedness. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the agencies operating under the ministry have successfully managed the safe transition of 1.5M refugees from Ukraine through Moldova.”
