Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco met with Director of the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), Oğuz Serkant Akın.
Officials reviewed actions aimed at strengthening home affairs in the context of the threats posed by the war in Ukraine.
During the discussion, the participants addressed topical issues and jointly assessed the highly volatile security situation, given that Moldova’s internal security is constantly threatened by several cross-border organised crime incidents.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Ana Revenco and the Director of the SELEC reiterated the need to intensify the exchange of actionable information resulting in building up joint operational teams.
In this regard, the officials stressed the importance of increasing the number of operational activities and joint monitoring of suspicious activities along the border.
The officials discussed the hybrid threats faced by the Republic of Moldova and the further European path towards reforms.
The main regional security risks, including those related to the Black Sea, were also addressed.
Over the last period, in particular 2022, the exchange of information through the SELEC channel has increased by 35% and the number of operational meetings – by 19%. These indicators demonstrate the involvement and contribution of Moldovan law enforcement bodies towards fighting organised crime and other emerging risks throughout the SELEC region.
We would like to mention that on March 2, under the aegis of SELEC, an action day was held in the framework of a Moldovan-Romanian investigation – a criminal group has been broken up and criminal assets worth 50 thousand euros have been seized.
SELEC is a cooperation structure with international participation, having the status of a diplomatic mission, and is a regional instrument that contributes directly to supporting the efforts of law enforcement bodies in Southeast Europe to fight cross-border crime.
