Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania – a good strategic partner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova

Minister of Interior Affairs Ana Revenco, jointly with head of GIES Alexandru Oprea, held today a bilateral discussion with Secretary of State of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs Raed Arafat.

One of the topics discussed concerned Moldova’s accession to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Following the submission in September 2022 of the formal application for the membership of the Mechanism, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova is preparing to host in April 2023 an EU evaluation team that will carry out a Peer Review mission. Mr. Raed Arafat has confirmed the readiness of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs to support Moldova’s accession efforts.

In addition, the discussion served as a good opportunity to strengthen mutual trust and identify solutions to common challenges faced by both institutions, as well as to exchange best practices, as our country’s objective is to become a regional and international security provider by enhancing the position of the Republic of Moldova and by delegating employees of MIA’s subdivisions on humanitarian, assistance and natural disaster relief missions.

The prospects for further cooperation were also discussed, both on routine issues, such as managing the situation generated by the flow of refugees/resettled persons on the territory of the Republic of Moldova following the conflict in Ukraine, as well as future ones, such as the submission of joint projects for implementation from EU funds.
