Empowering women: Highlights from the European Police Congress

A delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic Moldova, led by the Secretary of State Daniella Misail-Nichitin, visited Berlin from April 15 to 18, 2024, to participate in the European Police Congress.

This internationally significant event provides a crucial platform for dialogue among authorities and facilitates the establishment of new partnerships among participants from around the world. State Secretary Daniella Misail-Nichitin had the privilege of presenting the perspectives of the Republic of Moldova on the role of women in leadership positions. In her address, she emphasized the importance of women’s active involvement in peace and security processes. At the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, approximately 28% of the staff are women, with 20% of them holding senior positions.

In 2023, the Republic of Moldova approved its second National Action Programme, with a focus on collaborating with Ukraine to exchange knowledge on protecting women during armed conflicts. Key priorities include community engagement, the role of women in conflict prevention, accelerating peace and inclusion in local communities, promoting digitization as a tool to advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and fostering cross-sectoral and cross-border cooperation.

Participation in the European Police Congress underscores Moldova’s commitment to promoting and involving women in national and international peace and security processes.
