The operational results of the EU Support Hub for Internal Security and Border Management in the Republic of Moldova (EU Support Hub) will be assessed tomorrow in Brussels, Belgium, in the context of the European Union Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council meeting.
The Republic of Moldova is one of the countries most affected by the war in Ukraine. Since the outbreak of Russia’s unjustified aggression against the neighbouring country, Moldova’s internal security has also been constantly threatened by several cross-border crime phenomena, such as illegal migration, human and arms trafficking, cybercrime, hybrid dangers and more.
The European Union has constantly stood in solidarity with theRepublic of Moldova and has shown the commitment to support Moldova’s critical needs. The establishment in July 2022 of the EU Support Hub brings to a new level the cooperation between the law enforcement agencies from our country and those from the EU community.
At the fifth meeting of the EU Security Center, the results achieved by the Support Hub in its first six months of operation will be discussed. The meeting will be co-chaired by European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Ana Revenco.
This is the first time when both the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and representative of the rotating EU Council Presidency, Swedish State Secretary Charlotte KUGELBERG, will participate at the technical meeting of the Hub. Seven representatives of the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Spain, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland and Finland will also attend the meeting.
The Council is due to approve the Progress Report for the first six months and the Plan for the development and integration of the Hub into the European security ecosystem.
