Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrei Cecoltan met with representatives of the INL for the Euro-Asian region from the United States of America.
The officials discussed the state of play regarding cooperation in the field of internal affairs, reviewing US assistance, the fulfilment of the Roadmap for EU Accession, as well as the current challenges of countering hybrid threats/disinformation, trafficking of prohibited substances and crisis management.
At the same time, the need for TETRA communications equipment was analysed, which will make it possible to reduce the response time to incidents, using modern communications systems as a solution. In this regard, the Secretary of State of the Ministry stressed that joint activities and exchange of best practices between the two countries is essential for the development of secure radio networks – TETRA.
Andrei Cecoltan expressed his gratitude for the strong support of the US in modernising the internal affairs system and stressed the importance of the experience and assistance of American partners in implementing democratic reforms for the benefit of the population.
Other topics of discussion focused on the need to diversify instruments in strengthening border management, security and public order, response to exceptional situations, combating organised crime, etc. In this regard, the American delegation gave assurances of continued support to the efforts of the Ministry of Internal Affairs through assistance projects to support institutional modernisation in line with EU standards.
